Floridian Great Room Gets a Makeover

The traditional cluttered feel of the existing living space made this Florida residence seem old fashioned. The two chairs and table flanking the sliding doors made them unusable. The heavy old fashioned wall unit overpowered the space. My job was to "lighten things up." The floor was changed to a beautiful porcelain wood-look wide plank tile. This was changed throughout the home. The ceiling and walls are done in colors 984 and 985 matte finish Auora paint by Benjamin Moore. These colors are repeated throughout. The furniture is grounded using a custom carpet in a fun shag from ABC Carpet. The cream color sofa is in a beautiful semi-circle, and sits opposite the two swivel chairs done in the same fabric. Three custom pillows coordinate with the dining chairs, and are done with a Kravet Couture fabric. This fabric was the inspiration for the entire room. A comfy leather swivel and reclining chair push the design to a modern edge. The coffee table was created using three separate live-edge bleached natural wood tables in staggering heights. The two side tables are petrified wood and keep with the transitional organic feel of the space. The floating wall unit is custom designed and painted in the same dove white as the trim. The hand carved wood pieces displayed on the open shelves are from Italy, and the shelves were designed specifically to show them off. The spectacular 84" light fixture is from Restoration Hardware modern collection.
